QUEENS of maskandi music, Izindlovukazi ZikaMageba, have vowed to fight against the killing of people living with albinism.

The group is made up of legendary artists Buselaphi Gxowa, Uboneni Magubane, Glama kaMaskandi and Vumile Mngoma.

According to Buselaphi, the group aims to use their music talent to fight against social ills in Mzansi.

“Our message is simple – stop killing people who live with albinism.

“They’re also human and their body parts can’t be used to make muthi.”

She said they’re touring KZN in areas where the killings have happened in recent years.

“We’ve urged traditional healers and other organisations to help us fight this evil,” said Buselaphi.

She said they appreciate the support they’ve received for their new album, Akusiwo Umuthi Umuntu.

The group has been nominated in the best female artist category at the South African Traditional Music Awards.

“We’re glad people like it. On this album, we also tackle the abuse of women and children,” said Buselaphi.

Uboneni said some of their songs are about demanding respect for women.

“We want equal opportunities, even in the music industry.”

She said the 16 Days of Activism campaign against women and child abuse should raise awareness every day of the year.

Musa Zulu, who produced the album, said: “I’m happy they’re already enjoying the fruits of their hard work.”
