NOT even the rain could stop residents from marching to Matlosana Municipality’s offices to demand answers about the allocation of stands.
According to residents of Jakaranda Ext 10 in Matlosana, North West, they have been waiting for too long for the municipality to allocate stands and every time they try to follow up, they are fed lies and promises.
Speaking on behalf of residents, Xolani Tshabalala said they have been waiting for too long.
He said some of the stands that were supposed to be allocated to them are now being occupied illegally.
“We are concerned about allocations. It’s been a long time since we were promised that we will be moved to Ext 11 but now we are hearing rumours that the area is no longer available,” he said.
Tshabalala said the last time the municipality engaged with them was in December and made promises which were not kept.
“They came back in February and we were told we needed to select five people who would deal with counting all the shacks and that everything would be completed within 10 days but nothing has happened,” said Tshabalala.
“So, we want clarity on stands allocation and how long is the allocation expected to take.
“We also want to know what will happen if there’s a shortage of stands because this is a big community.”
He said they demanded that from now on the municipality communicates directly with them to avoid misinformation.
Housing MMC Mojalefa Masupa acknowledged the memorandum and promised residents that issues raised will be dealt with in two weeks’ time.
