RESIDENTS of Ellaton in Klerksdorp found themselves stranded without service delivery when they realised that it's been at least two weeks now without seeing a truck refuse removal collecting rubbish.

Daily Sun also learned that other areas were struggling with the same services.

Residents decided to help themselves rather than to wait for the Matlosana Local Municipality to help.

"As residents, we've decided to help ourselves and see that our area becoming neat. We're also feeling great about the support that we got from other residents. Thanks for the trolley that we used to load rubbish," a resident said.

Another resident thanked a local pastor, Mbulelo Ndakane, for assisting them with a trolley.

"We are really living in a horrible situation. Our municipality doesn't care about us. What about our bills?" a resident said.

The municipal spokeswoman, Ntswaki Makgetha, apologised on behalf of the municipality for the inconvenience caused.

"The management of the city managed to reach an amicable resolution with the employees regarding the disputes. Consumers are therefore informed that refuse will be collected from today as per schedule," she said.
