OUTGOING Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha has chaired his last executive council meeting as premier of the province.
The meeting was held at a venue outside Polokwane on Wednesday, 8 May, where Mathabatha reflected on the milestones and challenges of the sixth administration under his leadership.
The meeting served as a platform to conclude crucial matters of the sixth administration, as well as to wrap up transitional plans in preparation for the seventh administration.
He said he leaves the role thrilled that he served his province when it needed him most. However, he recognised outstanding matters such as issues related to water provision and projects that have stalled for several years.
“It’s our collective responsibility to address these challenges and ensure they're resolved expediently for the benefit of all our residents,” Mathabatha said.
He said during the meeting, they approved cluster reports that highlighted progress made in various sectors, laying a solid foundation for the incoming seventh administration.

“We've overseen significant infrastructure development projects across the province, economic growth, education and skills development, healthcare improvements, social developments and good governance.”
He said achievements serve as a testament to the resilience and determination of the people of Limpopo, and that the next administration will find in place good work to build on towards prosperity.
“Most of our departments’ books are on unqualified audit opinions and clean audits, with only three departments that are on unqualified audit opinions,” said Mathabatha, who was recalled from his ambassadorial role in Ukraine.
“I can't believe that it's 11 years already. Eleven challenging but fulfilling years of my life. I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Limpopo for their unwavering support, trust, contribution of ideas and constructive criticism over the past 11 years heading the province.”
Mathabatha said it's been a great experience.
“As I prepare to hand over the reins to the incoming administration, I’m confident that the foundation we've laid together will serve as a springboard for even greater achievements in the years to come," he said.
