SCHOOL violence is giving the Gauteng Department of Education a headache.

Several pupils have been killed with others have been injured in the past. Now pupils come to school armed to the teeth.

This surfaced at a school in KwaThema. On Tuesday, 26 September, police visited Lefa-Ifa Secondary School in KwaThema, Ekurhuleni after complaints of gang violence and what they found shocked them.

Cops found dangerous weapons, but what was shocking was a panga abandoned in a classroom.

The owners of the dangerous objects decided not to come forward as they feared the repercussions.

The pupils were given a stern warning.

The search was conducted by KwaThema cops, crime prevention wardens, SAPS K9 unit, Department of Community Safety and Gauteng Department of Education.

Captain Nelda Sekgobela said the search was conducted in KwaThema since there is a scourge of gangsterism in some schools.

"The team proceeded to Lefa-Ifa Secondary School where problematic classrooms were searched.

Captain Sekgobela said dagga, a panga, an Okapi knife, crusher and sharp scissors were found abandoned in classrooms.

"All found properties were booked in at KwaThema Police Station. The school management appreciated all the assistance to curb violence in the school."
