HARDLY 48 hours after Constable Siyabonga Thango was killed, the police managed to track down the suspects.

On Sunday, 23 July, one suspect was shot and later died in the hospital while another suspect was arrested.

The incident happened in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, when cops cornered the suspects.

A passerby said he saw cops following a car and suddenly heard gunshots.

He said: “I ran for cover, and I saw people in a white car running in different directions.

“One of the suspects fell in the road and a shoot-out ensued between the thugs and cops,” he said.

“This was like a movie, but cops managed to arrest the thugs, and one of them was shot and injured,” he said.

National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola has commended the team investigating the murder of Constable Thango for the swift arrest of his killers.

The 32-year-old Thango was among a group of crime prevention officers who were responding to a business robbery in Vosloorus on Friday, 21 July 2023, when he was fatally shot by armed suspects.

At the time of his death, he had five years of service, having joined the SAPS in 2018.

The investigating team mobilised all resources to apprehend his killers.

On Sunday morning, the team followed up on information of the whereabouts of the killers and they pounced on them, leading to a shoot-out between police and the suspects in Vosloorus.

Two suspects, aged 27 and 29, were arrested, and three firearms were recovered. The 27-year-old suspect later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
