THE family of murdered Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) activist Lulamo Fatyela said they only learnt about his death on Facebook.
Julius Fatyela, the uncle of Lulamo, said this during the deceased's a memorial service at Itsitsa Primary School in Mfuleni on Sunday, 3 September.
Lulamo was murdered with two other activists, Luyanda Mtsila and Lubabalo Feketsha.
EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu also attended the memorial service.
The three fighters were shot dead on Tuesday night, 29 August in Shukushukuma informal settlement while on their way from a meeting.
Julius said people must desist from posting people’s deaths on social media without the family’s permission.
“People must stop posting everything on social media because they will kill families. His death was all over Facebook. I heard my wife telling me that Siyaya had died. I told her that there was nothing like that. My other nephew called and told me the same thing, saying he had seen that on Facebook,” said Julius.
He said that he went to Shukushukuma informal settlement and it was confirmed that Lulamo had died.

Julius said as a family, they had disagreements with Lulamo and had not spoken in years, adding that he was shocked to hear about his death.
The uncle said they were not shocked to learn that Lulamo was an activist because his father recruited him when he was young.
“His father used to go with him to toyi toyi when he was still a young boy. He followed in his father’s footsteps because his father liked politics and he was a passionate activist,” said Julius.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that an investigation is underway after the murder.
“Provincial Serious Crime Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding circumstances where three men were shot and killed in Mfuleni on Tuesday evening, 29 August. The deceased were all found in Shukushukuma Street with gunshot wounds. The motive is yet to be determined as investigations continue. No arrests have been effected,” said Swartbooi.
