THUGS were meeting to plan their crime when cops suddenly appeared.
They fled the scene but the owner of the house was found hiding in the roof.
Police spokeswoman Captain Nelda Sekgobela said police acted fast after receiving a tip-off about the meeting at a house in Entshonalanga in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
“The Crime Intelligence Unit received a tip-off and liaised with members of the Flying Squad, who reacted swiftly. Upon arrival, they found the meeting was adjourned and the suspects had dispersed,” she said.
Sekgobela said the police arrested the owner of the house and recovered four firearms, a rifle and three Glock firearms, 28 rounds of live ammunition, bullet-proof vests, six firearm holsters, nine boxes of watches, 11 boxes of pellet guns and boxes with assorted bottles of liquor.
She said police had a busy weekend and removed illegal guns from other areas in the Ekurhuleni East District.
She said in Rabie Ridge, Trio Task Team members, the Metro police, Crime Intelligence members and the Gauteng Traffic and Tracker Unit arrested two suspects in possession of two unlicensed firearms, a revolver, six rounds of live ammunition and a Tanfoglio pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition.
“One of the suspects were also found in possession of drugs,” she said.
She said in Crystal Park, another suspect was arrested for possession of a 22 Browning rifle and six rounds of live ammunition. Another was arrested in Etwatwa in possession of a 9mm pistol without a licence after police received a tip-off from community members.
In Sethokgwa section of Tembisa, a suspect was found with a Glock with the serial number filed off and 12 rounds of ammunition.
She said the arrested suspects would appear in court soon.
