Driver rescued from hijackers!

accreditation

A TRUCK driver was reportedly saved by Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officers at Sinoville on Wednesday, 3 August, following a hijacking incident.

According to spokesman Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, TMPD members found the driver in the truck with his hands and legs tied up. And, the truck was being driven by the alleged thugs at the time.

He said the police were conducting traffic duties on the R101 when they noticed a truck, with a Zimbabwean registration plate, overloaded with passengers in the front seat.

“They stopped the truck. Then three men got out and ran towards the Bon Accord squatter camp. The officers searched the truck and found its driver tied up with a duct tape on the hands and legs. He told them that he was hijacked and robbed on the N1 highway,” he said.

Mahamba further said it was discovered that a vehicle with blue lights, followed by a white BMW, stopped the truck just after Petropoort.

“A silver Nissan Navara bakkie stopped behind the truck. The suspects from the BMW pointed the driver with firearms, covered his mouth with duct tape and also used it to tie his hands and legs. Then they drove away with him inside. The suspects are still at large,” he added.

He appealed to anyone with information to contact TMPD at 012 358 7095/6.
