ZOLILE Sekeleni, the father of the controversial Dr Nandipha Magudumana has been charged with murder.
The 65-year-old man appeared alongside his co-accused, Senohe Matsoara (39), a former G4S employee in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court, Free state on Tuesday, 11 April.
This after they were arrested over the weekend in connection with the escape of "Facebook rapist" Thabo Bester from Mangaung Prison in May 2022.
They are both charged with murder, allegedly committed in March last year at Mangaung.
According to the chargesheet, on or about 3 March 2023 and at or near Bloemfontein, the accused did unlawfully and intentionally kill an unknown adult male.
They are also facing charges of aiding and abetting a convicted prisoner escape from lawful custody.
Sekeleni was arrested on Friday, 7 April at his home in Port Edward in KZN, while Senohe was bust at his residence in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 8 April.
Sekeleni was allegedly the mastermind in Bester's escape.
National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, ordered that the investigation into the prison escape be prioritised.
Detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and Organised Crime Investigations Unit in Free State and Gauteng have been appointed to work around the clock with the Department of Correctional Services and Crime Intelligence.
A case of murder is also under investigation following the outcome of the DNA analysis that confirmed that the body found in the cell was not Bester's.
The autopsy report revealed that the deceased died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and was already dead prior to the fire.
The case has been postponed to Monday, 17 April.
