THE controversial Dr Nandipha Magudumana was allegedly attacked in prison by a sangoma and a mentally ill inmate.
This is according to her lawyer, Advocate Machini Motloung.
He said his client Magudumana was attacked on Sunday, 17 March by the two inmates at the correctional facility where she is housed in Kroonstad.
Motloung said he received a call this morning, Monday, 18 March, that his client had been attacked. He then tried to contact the head of the prison without success.
"This morning, I received a message that my client had been attacked by fellow inmates. I then tried to contact the head of the prison, but I couldn't get through. And when we adjourned, I received a call from my client."

"I can confirm that she was indeed assaulted by two fellow inmates, one of whom is a sangoma and the other mentally challenged," he said.
Motloung went on to say that the assault that happened had long been coming as Magudumana had been threatened with violence for some time.
"She reported this to the relevant authorities, but nothing has come of her complaint," he said.
This is the second assault Magudumana has reported since her arrest in 2023.
In October 2023, she filed a case for common assault against the correctional service.
The Department of Correctional Service (DSC) has confirmed that they have received a complaint from Dr Magudumana about an alleged assault that occurred at the prison on Sunday.
Department spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo said a prayer meeting was taking place in a cell other than Magudamana’s cell when the incident happened.
"He said DCS officials had advised Nandipha Magudumana to initiate criminal proceedings when she reported the alleged assault, but she preferred to speak to her lawyers about it first. Also, DCS health officials examined the woman and found no visible injuries," he said.
