SIZA Mbhalati, deputy chief education specialist, was shot dead on Thursday, 10 August.

The 52-year-old man was killed at his home in Protea Glen, Soweto.

According to the department spokesman Steve Mabona, Mbhalati was allegedly followed home on Thursday afternoon by unknown suspects who then fired about eight shots at him in his driveway while he was still in his car.

Mabona said Mbhalati worked for the Labour Relations Unit in the Joburg South District and was responsible facilitating for labour related disputes at schools in the district.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane extended his sincere condolences to the family and relatives after losing one of their loved ones.

"We are saddened by the unfortunate death of one of our dedicated public servants who served the department with honour and dignity.

"On behalf of the department, we extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. In the same breath, we condemn this level of lawlessness and call for the swift apprehension of these brazen criminals," Chiloane said.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi told Daily Sun that police are investigating a murder case.
