A TRAGEDY has struck the residents of Bityi in Eastern Cape after seven family members were shot and killed on Wednesday, 16 November.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 11.30pm, three unknown armed men forced their way into a homestead in the Tantseka location and opened fire.
“It’s further alleged that six people succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the seventh victim died in hospital. Circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation,” Naidu said.
She said the victims are family relatives aged between 29 and 68.
Naidu said the family were in mourning and arranging for the burial of their relative, madala Novotile Mgxada (62), who was fatally shot last week.
“A case of murder (seven counts) was opened for further investigation, and the investigation has been taken over by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit,” said Naidu.
