FOLLOWING a number of failed attempts, the Democratic Alliance (DA) is planning a third motion of no confidence against Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
The party is expected to hold a media briefing today, 8 August, on the planned motion in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
The briefing will be held by Gauteng caucus leader Solly Msimanga and chief whip Fred Nel.
The DA said: “For more than five years, Premier David Makhura has been stringing along the residents of this province by making promises that up to date have not been fulfilled.
“Under Premier Makhura’s watch, the Special Investigating Unit reports into various allegations of corruption have still not been made public.
“No steps have been taken to recover some of the money that was lost to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tender scandal, which took place at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Premier Makhura has failed dismally as the leader of this province and should be removed as a matter of urgency.”
The DA said under his watch, the public purse was looted and having him in power would worsen the situation.
However, the African National Congress (ANC) said this was nothing but politics.
Premier Makhura’s spokesman Vuyo Mhaga said: “They are just politicking. Gauteng is the only institution of government that has publicly issued an integrity and ethics report.
“So, “The Integrity and Ethics Council is chaired by Dr Terrance Nombembe.it’s just politics and we are less than worried about what the DA says,” he said.
Speaking to you now on a Sunday, we are with the police minister in Kagiso giving feedback to the community. Last night, we joined the police for a night operation at Ivory Park, so we are hard at work.”
