THE Democratic Alliance says the days of Gauteng premier David Makhura in office are numbered.
On Monday, 8 August, DA Caucus Leader, Solly Msimanga MPL and Chief Whip Fred Nel MPL held a media briefing on the motion of no confidence to be tabled against Makhura in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Msimanga did not hold back as he lashed out at the years Makhura has occupied the office and questioned whether the province was heading in the right direction.
“After nearly eight years of Makhura being the leader of Gauteng, one must ask: Is this province getting better? Is there hope? Are we heading in the right direction?
“Simply put, the answer to all the above is a hard no,” Msimanga said in a statement.
He said crime under Makhura’s leadership is high and little is done to address the crisis.
“Gauteng SAPS stations dominate the top 30 of all crime stats across the country, with a severe increase in crimes like hijackings, murder and sexual offences.”
From January 2022 to March 2022, the following cases have been reported:
* 1 403 murder cases.
* 2 936 hijackings.
* 2 267 cases of sexual offences.
Msimanga outlined various issues that the incumbent government of Makhura was failing to address issues such as unemployment, corruption and wasteful expenditure,among others.
“It is time this province and its people were served by someone who legitimately wants to make a change and improve their lives.
As reported by Daily Sun, Premier Makhura’s spokesman Vuyo Mhaga said: “It’s just politics and we are less than worried about what the DA says,”
