COPS have launched a manhunt for tsotsis who robbed more than 120 matrics and an assistant teacher of their cellphones and cash.
The shocking robbery happened at Orhovelani High School in Thulamahashe, near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga, at around 11pm on Wednesday, 2 November. The traumatised kids from five schools had met to prepare for their final maths exam.
The assistant maths teacher (25) said the thugs stormed the classroom and fired warning shots into the ceiling before they ordered everyone to lie down on the floor.
“They threatened to blow our brains out as they demanded our phones and money.
“They took all our belongings, including school tablets and cash. When they were done, they ran towards the damaged fence at the school.”
Her shocked colleague (25) said the kids were traumatised.
SGB deputy secretary Hlayisani Khoza said: “Our kids are no longer safe. This is the third time thugs have robbed matrics over the past three years. We’re appealing to the department to improve security and fix the fence.”
Mpumalanga Education spokesman Jasper Zwane said: ”We are waiting for a formal report from the school. Yes, we can confirm that incident but we believe it won’t disturb the exam at the school, and we have reported the matter to the police.
