RIETGAT police responded to a shooting on Tuesday, 30 January.

The incident happened in Soshanguve Block AA near Siyokhela Primary School, Tshwane following a foiled robbery of a courier van.

A witness said that a VW Polo was travelling at high speed in the area behind a Quantum with the RAM (courier) vehicle in the middle.

"The Polo driver almost hit me and suddenly I heard gunshots and there was a commotion on the road.

"I just wish they had stolen everything they wanted without shooting. Now one of them has died because of their evil actions," he said.

Other residents who were at the scene refused to comment when asked what they heard or saw.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi told the Daily Sun that a case of carjacking was opened for further investigation after the drivers of two courier vehicles were allegedly forced at gunpoint to drive to Soshanguve Block AA.

She said that the suspects, who were apparently driving a white Quantum and a Polo, disarmed one of the victims and unloaded the goods from the courier vehicles before fleeing and abandoning the courier vehicles.

"When officers arrived, they found a man, believed to be one of the robbers, lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound and unresponsive next to a white Polo. So far, no one has been arrested and police investigations are ongoing," she said.
