“This is a loss not only to the department but to the province and the country,” said Sambatha.
He said the virus claimed the lives of the much-needed health workforce over the past week.
Dr Lomalisa Litenye was a well-known gynaecologist and obstetrician. Dr Florah Makama was a clinical psychologist.
Sambatha said this happened at a time when the province was experiencing a surge in positive cases.

“As if that was not enough, the province lost two nurses over the past week. We’re saddened by the loss of these health professionals,” he said.
Sambatha said the two doctors were based in Mahikeng and had endeared themselves to residents of the province’s capital city.
He said one of the nurses was based at Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District and the other in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District.
