FAMILIES of three murdered children were overjoyed on Thursday 11 August.
This was because Judge Lillian van Wyk of the high court sitting in Palm Ridge, Ekurhuleni, found Pontsho Mohlanka guilty of their murder.
Mzwandile Zitho (5), Simphiwe Mgcina (6) and Mpho Makondo (8) from Orange Farm, Joburg, were killed between April and September 2020.
Their naked bodies were found with items attached to them and a letter linking a neighbour to their murders.
Van Wyk said: “With the lack of clothing, same manner of death and the note, the court finds that the three murders were premeditated.”
The judge also described Mohlanka’s version of events as improbable.

The court found the letter was written by Mohlanka herself, as her fingerprints were on it.
Mohlanka said her boyfriend was involved in the murders of Mpho and Simphiwe.
She claimed he threatened to harm her child if she told anyone.
However, Van Wyk said her boyfriend treated her son like his own after finding out he was not his biological father.

Mpho’s gogo Morgina Malatji said: “She didn’t expose the people working with her but we are happy.”
Simphiwe’s mum said she hoped Mohlanka got a harsh prison sentence.
Community leader Linda Ndebele said he prayed for a guilty verdict.
