THE long wait for judgment in the Zulu royal house court battle is almost over.
Judge Mjabuliseni Isaac Madondo will hand down his judgment on Wednesday, 2 March, in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
Madondo’s judgment is expected to make things easier for President Cyril Ramaphosa to resolve the Zulu throne dispute between King Misuzulu and Prince Simakade.
This after the late King Zwelithini’s first wife, Queen Sibongile Dlamini-Zulu, and her two daughters, Princess Ntandoyenkosi Zulu and Princess Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma, rushed to court after his death. This was where Queen Sibongile demanded 50% of Zwelithini’s estate. She claims she was married in a civil union while the other queens were married in customary law.
Princess Ntandoyenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu are challenging the validity of Zwelithini’s will, saying it cannot stand as some of the signatures were flagged as forged.
The will appointed Zwelithini’s third wife, the late Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu, as regent and she appointed her first son, Misuzulu, as king.
King Misuzulu and Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s lawyer Nkanyiso Mncube said he didn’t want to comment on the matter at the moment.
“I don’t want to comment whether the judgment will favour us or not. I prefer to comment after the judgment has been handed down,” he said.
Queen Sibongile Dlamini-Zulu and daughters Princess Ntandoyenkosi and Princess Ntombizosuthu’s lawyer Mondli Thusini said they hoped the judgment favours them. “We will see what the judge says on Wednesday and we will respect his judgment,” he said.
