A COUPLE has been left devastated by the robbery of R113 000 of stokvel money.

The incident took place at the couple’s home in Zondi, Soweto, on Sunday, 4 December at 1.30pm.

The woman, who asked not to be named, told Daily Sun she was fast asleep and her boyfriend was in the sitting room when the incident happened.

The front door was not locked.

She said two unknown armed men entered the house and demanded money.

She said she suspected the men knew the stokvel money was in the house.

The woman said the armed suspects pointed guns at them and took R113 000 and three cellphones.

She said they reported the incident to the Jabulani SAPS, and can’t answer any more questions at the moment.

Jabulani police have appealed to stokvel members or savings groups to transfer money via EFT.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “Avoid keeping large amounts of money at residential or business premises.

“If money is withdrawn, it should be collected in groups and shared immediately.”

Police appealed to the public to assist them with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“Information provided will be treated as confidential,” said Masondo.
