A MAN is lucky to be alive after finding his girlfriend dead.

The 32-year-old from Enkanini squatter camp in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, was attacked by a mob following his girlfriend’s death on Tuesday, 20 September.

The 35-year-old woman’s body was found face down in bed by her family after she was unreachable for two days.

When the man and his girlfriend’s sister (28) arrived on the scene, a crowd had formed and accused him of killing his girlfriend.

They also demanded he return her four-month-old baby who was missing.

“I was saved by the cops. Some people had knives and I saw another one with a gun,” he said.

The sister said she was insulted while the crowd beat up the boyfriend.

Cops took him to the police station where he was questioned before being released.

The man said the last time he saw the girlfriend, she left the baby with a neighbour. The baby was later found in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, with the neighbour. The woman’s aunt (41) said the boyfriend and the family last spoke to the woman the Saturday before her body was found. Police spokeswoman Ndakhe Gwala said the baby was unharmed and the neighbour was arrested.

The matter is being investigated.
