THE Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) helped to rescue a young man, who was attempting to commit suicide in the CBD.
This happened on Thursday, 10 November, while officers on patrol heard people screaming at the corner of Kruis and Lillian Ngoyi Street.
JMPD spokesman Xolani Fihla said officers went to investigate, and noticed a young man on a ledge on top of a building trying to jump over.

“Officers rushed to the security of the building to show them the entrance going upstairs,” said Fihla.
They managed to get to the top of the building, where they talked and negotiated with the man while waiting for back-up.
“The man’s sister was contacted, and officers continued to implore him not to jump until she came. She arrived, accompanied by a pastor, and they managed to convince him not to commit suicide,” said Fihla.
He added that the man received the necessary help from his sister and pastor.
