COPS in Cape Town have recovered over 1 500 cases of stolen booze valued at just over R2 million.
Cops spokeswoman Ndakhe Gwala said the incident happened in Montague Gardens on Wednesday, 26 October.
She said officers reacted after they were informed about a truck full of beer, which was stolen in Mfuleni kasi.
They quickly tracked the truck and found thieves already in action offloading the booze from the truck into a warehouse using fork lifts.
Gwala said: “Rapid response by the Cape Town K9 Unit resulted in the recovery of liquor worth R2 117 500. A truck transporting liquor was hijacked in Mfuleni on Wednesday.
“The K9 unit instantly tracked the stolen truck to 5th Avenue, Montague Gardens. Upon arrival, the members spotted an unknown male offloading the container with a fork lift.”
Cops also found a stolen black Jeep parked at the premises.
“There was also a black jeep parked in the premises which matched the description of one that was reported stolen in Milnerton. The vehicle had a big bolt cutter on the front passenger floor. The members seized the stolen truck, as well as the Jeep and 1 540 cases of liquor,” said Gwala.
She said a 43-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court once he has been charged.
