POLICE have impounded 26 goats and called for the owners to come forward.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, their vigilance led to 26 goats, with no brand marks, being impounded in Kameelrivier B on Sunday, 15 January.
He said police were urging the owners of the seized livestock to urgently come forth and identify them before the goats can could be forfeited to the state.
“The police were on routine patrols when they spotted a white Toyota Quantum pulling a trailer loaded with goats,” he said.
The driver said he was transporting the stock to an auction after owners from four different households hired him. He said the owners opted to sell their stock, fearing that it could be stolen.
“With no proof of ownership, they registered an inquiry docket then seized the animals for further investigation,” he said.
Mohlala called on residents who may have lost their goats to identify their stock at Mmametlhake SAPS or call Lieutenant-Colonel Freddy Sepogoane on 079 499 2015.

Commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela said cops regarded stock theft as a serious crime and additional effort was being made to resolve the issue.
She further advised farmers to brand their stock to identify it when recovered.
