COPS were honoured on Friday, 25 November, for going beyond the call of duty.

The Prestige Awards were held at the Rustique Boutique in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, with provincial spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala acting as the host.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela said: “Members should bear in mind that residents of Mpumalanga are safe in the hands of the men and women in blue and, therefore, you should soldier on.”

Safety and Security MEC Vusi Shongwe said the police should know that they will often not be thanked by anyone but this should not discourage them as many people only remembered them when they were in trouble.

One of the awards was scooped by the Mpumalanga Provincial Task Team, led by Colonel Phafane Seimela, for its recent successes, including in the murder case of a German tourist in October. The team also arrested the suspects in the Hillary Gardee and Bontle Mashiyane murders.
