A TOTAL of 283 suspects in the Ekurhuleni policing precinct have been arrested for various cases between Friday, 21 July and Sunday, 23 July.
Cops spokeswoman, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, said 31 illegal liquor outlets were also shut down during the operation.
She said: “Four unlicensed firearms were also removed from the wrong hands of suspects during operations in Ivory park, Tembisa, Reiger Park and Brackendowns. Ten firearms were confiscated from a house in Kempton Park after the suspect (the son of the owner of the house) was arrested for attempted murder where one victim was shot, injured and taken to hospital.”

Sekgobela said amongst the suspects, 193 suspects were arrested by detectives in district police stations during Operation Shanyela, which started on Saturday, 22 July.
She said the suspects were nabbed for cases such as assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property, theft, selling liquor without a licence, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession and dealing in drugs, gender-based violence and warrants of arrests.
The suspects are expected to appear in respective magistrates courts soon.
