AN ALLEGED killer cop has abandoned his bail application.
The 27-year-old, who faces a double-murder charge for the deaths of his two lovers, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Thursday, 10 November.
Mlungisi Sikhakhane is accused of killing Enhle Majozi (18) and Sithembile Ngobese (23). The two women were found dead in Sikhakhane’s rented room in KwaNyuswa in Durban, KZN, last month with multiple gunshot wounds.
It is alleged that he used his service pistol to shoot and kill them.
In court, Sikhakhane’s lawyer, Minoj Harripersad, said he was now abandoning bail. He further revealed that he would not be representing him anymore as there was a conflict of interest.
Magistrate Gwendolyn Robinson asked Sikhakhane to confirm what Harripersad had said, and he did.
Robinson further asked him how much time he needed to get a new lawyer, of which he said at least six weeks.
During his previous appearance, Sikhakhane was supposed to apply for bail but he didn’t. Instead, he asked the magistrate to recuse herself as one of the deceased’s fathers worked in the court.
He said he felt that the father might influence the magistrate. Following that matter, Robinson recused herself. Speaking to Daily Sun outside court, Enhle’s father, Oscar Msomi, (38) said: “It is a good thing that he is still in jail because we won’t feel safe if he gets bail.
“I’ve been vocal since my daughter died, especially in the media, so maybe that might lead to him doing something to me.” He said the petition they started online was now sitting at over 7 000 signatures of people against Sikhakhane getting bail. Sithembile’s father, Isaac Ngobese, (60) said he was also happy that Sikhakhane was still in jail.
“We won’t feel safe if a person like him gets released on bail,” he said.
He said that his family had not been fine since his daughter died, especially Sithembile’s twin brother.
“Sithembile’s twin brother and my wife are not okay. I don’t think we will ever heal from this tragic loss,” he said.
The matter has been postponed to 14 December.
