DETECTIVE Constable Jabulani Sibulelo pleaded not guilty to killing notorious gangster Lipos Pako.
Sibulelo (39), who is attached to the Bushbuckridge police, appeared in the Mhala Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Monday, 10 October.
He told the court he was acting in self-defence as his life was in danger when Pako (30) pointed a gun at him. Prosecutor Lot Mgiba asked the accused to explain what happened on the day in question.
Pako was shot in a RDP house in Majembeni Village outside Dwarsloop on 15 October 2017.
Sibulelo said they received information that the deceased was in the RDP when they arrived on the scene.

“We quickly surrounded the house. After knocking on the door and identifying ourselves as the police, we suddenly heard gunshots. I saw the window next to me being opened and the deceased exited naked with a gun in his hand pointed at me.
“Realising that my life was in danger, I shot him. He rose and staggered before falling,” said Sibulelo.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Nyiko Nyathi also took the witness stand.
She testified that five officers took position after they arrived at the RDP.
She said she and the accused were standing at the back of the house when they heard gunshots from the front of the house.
“I quickly moved when I saw the deceased jump out of the window with a gun pointing at the accused. The accused then fired shots at him and he fell to the ground,” she said.

Nyathi said she called an ambulance, which took long from Mkhuhlu. Unfortunately, he was certified dead on the scene.
The matter was postponed to 16 November.
