CONSTABLE Marven Maphoro’s funeral service was held today in Bronkhorstspruit, Tshwane.
Deputy police minister Cassel Mathale, together with national police commissioner General Fannie Masemola, led the funeral proceedings.
Constable Maphoro was shot and killed last Thursday, while attending an ATM bombing at a filling station in Tembisa, Gauteng.
He served as an officer for twelve years at the time of his death.
Mathale gave a message of comfort to the family, friends and colleagues.
“We gather again today to bid farewell to yet another one of our own. A distinguished police officer who dedicated his life to keeping you and I safe, a young life lost in the line of duty,” he said.

He said sombre occasions like that force them to confront the mortality of men and women who are willing to sacrifice everything including life and limb, so that South Africa and her people can be safe.
“These men and women in blue are as human as all of us, but they have committed to put their lives at risk for our protection and safety,” he said.
He said Constable Maphoro was no iron man, no superman, but just an ordinary human being willing to make South Africa a safe country for all of us to live in.
“He was a son, a brother, a friend, a husband, and a father to four beautiful children. Sadly criminals cut his life short and his children are left fatherless,” he said.
He said as the SAPS family, they commit themselves to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book and get the harshest penalty possible.
