SHE never went for baking lessons, but she’s definitely talented.
Businesswoman Kurhula Makhuvele, a self-taught creative cake artist, is originally from Rotterdam Village in Giyani, Limpopo.
She makes hyper realistic cakes that would fool your eyes.
She said her cakes are inspired by different brands, food, animals and everyday objects.
Kurhula, the owner and founder of Fine Bakes, now based in Kaalfontein in Midrand, told Daily Sun she started the cake business in 2018.
“My cakes are more than just cakes. They tell a story,” she said.
She said a cake artist is someone who showcases artistry through cakes. This is a new market in South Africa. What I love most about being a cake artist is that there’s no limit to what I can do,” she said.
“I love cakes. Out of 365 days a year, I probably spend 300 days making cakes.
“My creativity comes alive through them.”
Kurhula makes cakes full-time and sells them by order or through walk-ins. She’s now busy with a life-size cake sculpture of DJ Black Coffee to celebrate his recent win at the Grammys.
“The cake will look exactly like him, and will hopefully be the same height,” she said.
“The cake will be donated to the Buhlebezwe Children’s Home in Tembisa on 18 April.”
