A HORRIFIC head-on collision between an ambulance and an SUV has claimed the lives of two people.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, 30 March on the R81 road at the Lemondokop turn-off outside Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo.
The ambulance was on its way to an accident site in the village of Belevue outside Modjadjiskloof when the collision occurred.
Tragically, both drivers involved in the collision lost their lives in the crash, while the paramedic, three patients in the ambulance and the three occupants of the SUV survived.
Limpopo Department of Health spokesman Neil Shikwambana said all the survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at various hospitals.

"The incident is a stark reminder of the risks and challenges that rescue workers and medical professionals face in their work," he said.
Shikwambana said Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba was saddened by this terrible accident and wanted to personally convey her support and good wishes to the brave person who is bravely battling through this difficult time.
"She is saddened by the tragic accident and will be visiting the paramedic in hospital who survived this devastating head-on collision,” he said.
The department extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased drivers and reaffirms its commitment to supporting all those affected by this tragedy.
"MEC Ramathuba's visit to the hospital is a gesture of solidarity and appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices made by rescue personnel across the province," Shikwambana said.
