City Power workers robbed again.
City Power workers robbed again.

CITY Power employees have faced the wrath of criminals again this year.

This after two City Power employees were robbed of their valuables while working on Wemmer Street, next to Discovery in Roodepoort, Johannesburg on Monday afternoon, 16 October.

In July, City Power technicians were hijacked of their vans while on duty.

Isaac Mangena, the Spokesman for City Power, condemned the recent incident and revealed that the two employees left traumatised.

The organization has arranged for counselling to help them cope with the trauma.

"The two female employees were robbed by two men driving a white Datsun Go vehicle. The persistent attacks on our technicians are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The work that our technicians do is an important service to our communities, and they work tirelessly daily to ensure that residents have access to electricity either by attending to unplanned outage calls, essential maintenance work or auditing meters to name a few,” said Mangena.

He said that this year alone, their teams have been held at gunpoint, robbed of cellphones, laptops, toolboxes, hijacked and injured to the point of hospitalisation – all while on duty and servicing communities in Johannesburg.

Mangena appealed to communities to support their employees, as these incidents could force City Power to withdraw teams from high-risk areas if their safety is compromised.

Police spokesman Lieutenant, Colonel Mavela Masondo, said the police have opened a case of common assault at Florida Police Station.

An investigation is underway and no arrests have been made yet.
