ALL the evil things happening in this church yard are the things the church preaches about.

Drug addicts smoked at the graveside on the premises, sleep on the graves while couples poked among the gravestones.

Thugs and drug addicts used the church premises to rob people and smoke drugs.

The church’s leadership and members said they couldn’t tolerate the disrespect any longer.

Members of the Calvary Christ Mission Church in Lusaka, Mamelodi, Tshwane, said community members even threw their rubbish into the church yard.

On Tuesday, 27 September, the church resorted to building a wall around their premises.

Given Chauke, who is part of the church leadership, told Daily Sun they were tired of all the things that happened on the church premises.

“We hope that the wall will be a solution to the evil things that are happening in our church,” he said.

“We have a challenge of people who dump rubbish next in the church.

“The stench is disturbing our spiritual connection with God,” he said.

Chauke said people no longer respected the dead or God and that worried them.

“People inject themselves with nyaope and leave their syringes on the graves.

“Others leave used condoms here after poking.

Graves are a place of peace as our beloved ones are laid to rest in the area. We expect the community to take care of the graves and the church because they belong to them,” he said.

Pastor Themba Nhlapo said the wall would prevent thugs from stealing from the church and disturbing the dead.

“I am happy as this will prevent people from dumping rubbish here as well,” he said.

Community member Koketso Gangatha (26) said: “The wall will help to prevent thugs from doing criminal acts in the area.”
