MTHOBISI and Nosithembele Hleza are soulmates.
The 38-year-olds from Zam’philo in Khayelitsha were friends while growing up and were also neighbours at Y Section in Site B, Khayelitsha.
They got married to other people around 2008 and went their separate ways but their marriages didn’t work out and they both left their marriages in 2012.
They are now a couple. They told Daily Sun they never communicated while they were married.
Nosithembele said Mthobisi was the first person she saw when she returned home in 2012.
“I saw him at the bus stop. It was the year he had also left his marriage, so we started talking and spending more time together.
“Though we were friends, we started developing feelings for each other. We became intimate and I fell pregnant. We got married when our child was a year old. We have been together for a decade and have four children,” said Nosithembele.
She said she was married twice, but couldn’t have kids in her previous marriages.

Mthobisi also could not have kids in his four-year marriage.
“It seems like we were meant to be together because when we got together we became happy and had our own children,” said Nosithembele.
While growing up, Mthobisi used to date Nosithembele’s friend and Nosithembele was in a relationship with her husband’s friend.

“We are husband and wife, we are neighbours and above all we are friends. We know one another better and when he is angry I know how to calm him down. He also knows how to calm me down. We don’t run out of stories because we know each other more,” said Nosithembele.
Mthobisi said his marriage was meant to be.
“God wanted us to be together,” he said.
