MURDER accused Pontsho Mohlanka is expected to know her fate on Thursday, 11 August as her murder trial is nearing completion.
Acting judge Lillian Van Wyk is expected to deliver her judgment at the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge after the state and the defence argued their cases last Friday.
Pontsho is accused of having killed three children – Mzwandile Zitho (5), Simphiwe Mngcina (6) and Mpho Makondo (8) – between April and September 2020.
She denied killing the children and told the court they were killed as a sacrifice which she said her boyfriend may have planned.
The families and the community of Orange Farm are praying for nothing less than a guilty verdict in the upcoming judgment.
Mpho’s father, Moeketsi Malatjie, said Pontsho must be found guilty. “We believe there are accomplices that worked with her. We would be very happy if they also could have their day in court,” he said.
“She did say there were people there on the day, such as the sangoma and the person who allegedly brought the kids to the sangoma to be sacrificed.”
Pontsho previously told the court she last saw the two kids at a sangoma’s place where she went for cleansing after being provisionally released from jail for the first case.
Simphiwe’s mum Busisiwe Mgcina also wants the court to find Pontsho guilty and those who allegedly helped her exposed.
Community leader Linda Ndebele said: “We pray every day that she must be sent away for a long time. We must find the core people so that this thing will not continue in the neighbourhood.”
