THE Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital power crisis continues as City Power struggles to keep the lights on.
The hospital troubles never end; if it's not water shortages, it's power outages.
Recently, the hospital has not been having power. This after a power outage in the Joburg CBD, which affected several health facilities and left the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Parklane Hospital, and Rand Clinic.
It's alleged that the power outages affected the Cardiac lab, which resulted in it not being fully functional. The doctors had to cancel patient's appointments.
"These power outages mean that lifts are not functional. Normal power was restored at approximately 04h10, only to fail again at 05h00. All generators are running," a source said.
Despite the power outage affecting parts of Joburg caused by a burnt feeder board at the Ridge Substation, Charlotte Maxeke Joburg Academic Hospital continued to be operational.
The hospital had activated contingency measures and is currently running backup generators.

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has confirmed that the power supply has been restored at Charlotte Maxeke Joburg Academic Hospital following the power outage.
"The power supply was restored by the City Power team this morning around 10.30am. The facility had to activate contingency measures and was running on backup generators since Sunday, 21 April following power outage which affected several areas of Johannesburg," City Power said.
City Power spokesman Isaac Mangena said this incident affected customers in Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Berea, Hillbrow and the surrounding areas due to a flashed feeder board.
"We understand that the prolonged outage has been frustrating and inconvenient for our customers," he said.
