GQEBERHA cops in the Eastern Cape have arrested three robbery suspects.

This is after a 15-year-old girl was robbed of her cellphone while walking on 2nd Avenue in Newton Park on Monday, 30 May.

According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that the suspects approached the teenager at about 12pm, threatened her and snatched her cellphone.

“A patrolling security official witnessed the incident and chased after the suspects.

“He succeeded in arresting an 18-year-old male.

“While the suspects were running away, they threw the cellphone on the ground,” Naidu said.

She said further investigations led the cops to a house on Schauder Avenue in Holland Park.

The second suspect, aged 18, was found standing in the yard while the third suspect, aged 19, was also arrested at his home in the same area.

“The suspects are detained on a charge of robbery.

They are expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrates Court during the week,” Naidu said.
