TODAY marks six years since the murder of former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain, Senzo Meyiwa.

He was shot dead at the house of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

Police have allegedly made a breakthrough and arrested five men believed to have been the hitmen.

Police Minister General Bheki Cele will, together with national commissioner General Khehla Sitole, update the nation on the latest developments in Meyiwa murder case at 1pm.

Senzo’s father Sam Meyiwa died a sad man last year with no leads in his son’s murder case.

He had suffered a stroke in 2018, which was attributed to the lack of progress in the murder investigation.

Last Monday, News24 reported that the gun that killed Senzo had been found. Yesterday City Press reported that in 2015, Sam told cops that well known assassins from KwaNongoma in KZN killed his son.

At the time of his death, Senzo was embroiled in a salacious affair with the controversial Empini singer, who was pregnant with their daughter.

Senzo was also still married to Mandisa Mkhize and the drama surrounding the affair became tabloid fodder.

His club had taken out life cover policy for Senzo and after he died, the club took R2 million of the R4 million payout.

The remaining R2 million was to be paid out to his kids.
