SIYABUSWA police in Mpumalanga arrested a 40-year-old suspect following a Cash-In-Transit (CIT) robbery incident on Friday morning, 24 March.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the cash van was reportedly attacked by about six armed suspects on the R573 Road whilst driving from Marble Hall direction towards Siyabuswa.

“It is further reported that the suspects fired some shots, injuring one guard whilst the security vehicle was brought to a halt after its tyres were riddled by the gunshots.

“The suspects are said to have disarmed the security officers before detonating some explosives to access cash from the van,” Mohlala said.

He said the suspects reportedly got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

“It was then realised that one security guard sustained some injuries on the upper body whilst his colleagues were unharmed during the incident.

“One of the suspects' vehicles was found abandoned not far from the scene. Police immediately launched an investigation whereby one suspect was found hiding in the nearby bushes with a gunshot wound on his stomach," Mohlala added.

The suspect was arrested and is currently under heavy police guard in the hospital.

He said the suspect will appear in the Siyabuswa Magistrate's Court soon.

Police urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via the MySAPS App.
