THE case against a Mpumalanga man who allegedly slit his five-year-old cousin's throat has been postponed again.

Reply Ngobeni (27) briefly appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrates Court on Friday, 1 September. He faces a charge of murder after he allegedly killed Testimony Manchidi in July 2023.

In August 2023, the court ordered that the accused be sent for mental observation and on Friday, the state indicated that Ngobeni was seen by a psychiatrist on Wednesday, 16 August and again on Tuesday, 22 August.

It was also revealed that the doctor who examined him sent an email stating that the report would take time to be completed.

Ngobeni was last seen with the little girl at a local spaza shop in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. Her remains were later found dumped in a nearby bush with stab wounds on her upper body.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the little girl had left home with the suspect to a nearby tuck shop to buy some snacks, but Ngobeni returned home alone.

He allegedly informed his family members that the girl went to play with other kids. The family members became concerned and launched a search during which they made the gruesome discovery.

The matter was postponed to Monday, 18 September for the mental observation report.
