COPS in the Western Cape are on the hunt for four suspects who allegedly shot and injured three police officers in Nyanga five months ago.
The police released the photos of the suspects who are still at large and have called for residents to assist with information on their whereabouts.
According to police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, the suspects ambushed a cop van that was on patrol in Nyanga on Monday, 12 June 2023.
“Reports suggest that the men entered the shopping centre, pretending to be customers, threatening the staff and robbing them at gunpoint of cash. As the suspects fled the scene, they noticed a patrol vehicle from Nyanga SAPS at the entrance with four occupants.

“They reacted and fired numerous gunshots at the police members, seriously injuring three of them. The members were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The suspects who fled the scene are yet to be arrested,” said Van Wyk.
This is not the first time this year where law enforcement officers have been attacked while doing their job.
Law enforcement officer Zamikhaya Kwinana (32) was shot and killed after the patrol van he was travelling in with two other officers was ambushed in Nyanga on 4 August 2023. The incident happened during a taxi industry stay away.
“We appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who can shed light on the whereabouts of the suspects to kindly contact the investigating officer Lieutenant-Colonel Adrian Pretorius on 082 777 8499 or alternatively call CrimeStop on 08600 10111,” said Swartbooi.
