PHUMULILE Magagula says he still doesn’t know why his friend tried to kill him over a second-hand phone.
The 29-year-old from Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, said today he has three bullets lodged in his body because of a used lepopotane.
Phumulile said the trouble started when his smartphone started giving him trouble and he decided to get a cheap replacement.
His friend sold him a phone for R50 but removed the memory card.
When Phumulile asked for the card, he almost lost his life.
His friend was arrested for attempted murder on Wednesday, 19 September, after shooting Phumulile.
“We are childhood friends. For him to shoot me over a memory card is wrong,” said Phumulile.
He said he was in a lot of pain as bullets were still lodged in his leg and upper body.
“I had been struggling to get the card from him for a while,” said Phumulile.
“I was in a taxi when I saw him and asked him about the card, but he became aggressive and attacked me.”
Phumulile said he fought back and defeated his friend.
“He told me I was going to pay for what I did,” he said.
In the middle of this month, he went to Mzumbe in Springs and saw the suspect.
“He provoked me and I decided I wasn’t going to fight,” he said.
Phumulile said the friend left and returned with a gun.
“He said he was going to show me flames and he fired once, but it was a shotgun and it fired several bullets,” he said.
“Two bullets grazed my chin and my forehead. It’s only by God’s grace that I didn’t die.”
He said after the incident, the suspect, whose father is a metro cop, just left.
Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said a 29-year-old had already made his first court appearance. He was due back on Wednesday, 28 September.
