Majembeni villagers will now have access to clean water after suffering for some time.

THE residents of Majembeni Village in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga will no longer have to walk long distances to access clean water.

They recently received a new borehole and a 5 000-litre JoJo tank. The new equipment was handed over by Human Settlements MEC Speedy Mashilo on Saturday.

The MEC said the community of Ward 13 has been struggling without easy access to clean, drinkable water. He said the borehole and the tank will cater for more than 90 households.

“Water is a matter of life and death,” he said.

“It’s the biggest challenge our country is facing. We are working to ensure that everyone has access to clean water. It’s your constitutional right to have clean water,”

Bushbuckridge Mayor Sylvia Nxumalo thanked the MEC for heeding the community’s call.

“The borehole will solve the serious issue of water supply. We are grateful for this delivery.

“The community must safeguard the infrastructure from theft and vandalism,” she said.

Resident Nkhensani Xikwambani (34) said the borehole will make their lives easier because they’ve been struggling for a long time. “The borehole cut the long distance that we have been walking to get water,” she said.

Resident Patrick Mabunda (29) said pushing a wheelbarrow full of barrels of water for a long distance was tiring.

“The borehole and tank will help us a great deal. We are happy that the water problem has been solved and we will take good care of this facility,” said Patrick.
