FORMER state security minister Bongani Bongo wants the state to move faster on his corruption case.
Bongo appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday, 8 November, with his multiple co-accused.
Their matter was postponed to 16 November after one of the accused’s legal representative requested further particulars.
Bongo told Daily Sun that he is ready and has been waiting for the state to give him its side of the story.
“The investigation started in 2012. The state must be able to give any document that any lawyer needs. I think this is an indication that the state was never ready to proceed with this. I hope that on our next court date they would find a lasting solution for this case,” he said.
He said the matter has been prejudicial since they were charged, but until now there is no progress.
Bongo said he intends to plead not guilty.
“I still maintain that this case has nothing to do with a criminal investigation but is politically motivated,” he said.
Bongo, his ex-wife Sandile Nkosi, Robert Burwise, Patrick Chirwa, Harrington Dlamini, Blessing Singwane, David Dube, Sipho Bongo, Vusi Magagula, Bongani Sibiya, Elmon Mdaka, Sibongile Mdaka and five companies are facing charges of corruption, fraud, money laundering and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.
