THERE has been confusion over who the current mayor of the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality is.

This after allegations emerged that there are two mayors in the office.

According to reports, Matlakala Nondzaba, the executive mayor, returned to office on Monday, 15 January after being placed on special leave in 2023.

The acting mayor, Victoria Makhaula, was appointed acting mayor in September 2023.

It's alleged that Nondzaba reported for duty and changed the office locks while acting mayor Makhaula was away.

Makhaula also allegedly changed the locks the next day and denied Nondzaba access to the office.

It's alleged that Nondzaba is now using the chamber as her office while the acting mayor is still in office.

Nondzaba said she had gone on sick leave in November 2023.

"I had to undergo an operation, so I had to take some time off. My doctor has declared that I am now fit to work again. I have informed the African National Congress (ANC) that I am ready to return to office," she said.

Nondzaba alleged that that when she returned to the municipal offices, the locks had been changed.

"I'm now using the chamber as an office," Nondzaba said.

Thapelo Matebesi, spokesman for Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, confirmed the matter to Daily Sun.

"This is a political matter and therefore political attention is being given to it."

Matebesi claimed Tumelo Maruping, the ANC spokesman in the province, told him that he had already responded to the enquiry.

Daily Sun reached out to Maruping with no success.
