TWO suspects alleged to be bogus police officers are behind bars.
Joburg Central SAPS spokesman Captain Xoli Mbele told Daily Sun that two bogus police officers, between the ages of 35 and 45, have been arrested for impersonating police officers and extortion.
Mbele said it is alleged that the two suspects, a man and a woman, robbed a 28-year-old male and his partner in Joburg yesterday.
“The victims were coming from Mpumalanga to buy some clothes when they were confronted by the bogus police. The female suspect showed them a fake appointment card and demanded their passports,” said Mbele.
He said when the victims failed to produce passports, the suspects allegedly demanded R500 from both of them.
“The victims gave them R200 and police came to their rescue. Money, a fake appointment card and handcuffs were recovered,” said Mbele.
An investigation is underway and the suspects will soon appear at the Joburg Magistrates Court.
