KUGUGA othandayo!

This is what the group of 80 gogos from Spruitview near Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, believe.

And as a result, the group, made up of gogos who are 70 and older, is not letting age stand in their way. They travel, have fun and exercise to keep fit.

On Thursday, 10 November, they contributed cash to enjoy themselves at Montecasino, north of Joburg.

Gogo Rose Buthelezi, who is one of the leaders of the group, said the trip was long overdue.

“We have to make up for the two years we lost during the pandemic. We could not come together or have fun,” she said, adding that they even lost five members.

The gogos wore all white during their trip to signify new life, hope and light.

“We were in a dark place during Covid-19. By wearing white, we are uplifting our spirits. White is a symbol of hope,” said gogo Elizabeth Mthiyane.

Rose said they contributed R165 each to spend at Montecasino, and transport was paid for by their club, Pull Together Senior Citizens Club.

She said they also exercised often, which helped to alleviate ailments such as arthritis, and take part in sport competing with other gogos.
