BISHOP THABO’S gogo was a sangoma and when she died, she left him a mabhebeza to look after him.

But he believes his gogo, Francina, has transformed herself into mabhebeza and that’s why he gave her the same name.

“THE SPIRIT OF MY GOGO IS IN MY MABHEBEZA, AND I CALL HER FRANCINA!” SAID THE BISHOP.

But he believes his gogo Francina has transformed herself into mabhebeza and that is why he gave her the same name.

“THE SPIRIT OF MY GOGO IS IN MY MABHEBEZA AND I CALL HER FRANCINA!” SAID THE BISHOP.

Bishop Thabo Ntini from Skampaneng in Hammanskraal, Tshwane, named the mabhebeza after his gogo and is using it to heal his clients.

He said his gogo found the creature in Malawian waters many years ago.

He said she used to want it close to her while she worked in her indumba.

“She would tell me not to neglect it and to feed it.

“I have now taken over from my gogo and people come to me for help,” he said.

“People who want to remove bad luck or are tormented by evil spirits get help from gogo Francina.”

He said he speaks to gogo Francina.

“I tell her what my clients’ problems are and she guides me,” he said.

Bishop Ntini said when he treats clients, he puts the mabhebeza in a bucket of water.

After he has removed it, clients bathe in this water, while others drink it.

“The water needs to be filtered well so that cells from gogo Francina don’t affect them in their stomach,” he said.

He claimed to have cured many people with the help of gogo Francina.

One of his clients, Albert Nhlangano, said he was tormented by evil spirits.

“I visited several izangoma, but I didn’t get help.

“But since going to the bishop, I have been sleeping,” he said.

Another client, Dipuo Kgosinyana, said people used to hate her and she was told she had isinyama. “I had doubts when I went to the bishop because I had been to other izangoma,” she said.

“But now I can see a difference because the same people who didn’t want to speak to me, we are on speaking terms now.”
