THE Clinical Forensic Medical Care Centre at Bertha Gxowa Hospital is now fully operational.
This offers crucial support to gender-based violence (GBV) victims exposed to sexual violence.
This centre plays a key role in conducting medical examinations and collecting high-quality specimens for laboratory analysis, aiding in the successful prosecution of perpetrators.
On Friday, 26 April, Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko officially opened the upgraded facility at Bertha Gxowa District.
Since its inception in November 2011, the centre has been instrumental in the fight against GBV.

The launched various community outreach initiatives such as door-to-door visits, school campaigns, peaceful marches, and interactions with commuters and taxi drivers.
These efforts have significantly contributed to identifying and supporting survivors, even those who had not previously disclosed their trauma.
Despite facing relocation challenges that impacted accessibility for GBV victims, the centre has remained committed to its mission.
"South Africa faces a daunting challenge with the high prevalence of GBV, and it's our duty to ensure survivors find a safe haven and receive the necessary care," said MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko.
The renovated care centre aims to offer inclusive and comprehensive patient management, addressing the unique needs of GBV survivors, including children and individuals with disabilities.
